Stuck Parking Brake

The parking brake on my 99 F250SD is stuck ON. The hande cable is still good, moving the arm as far as it chould - but the brake won't release (the long cable under the truck is still attached and taught)... any ideas?

Have you used it much? Usually they get stuck because folks don't use them. If it's been a long time, spray your cables with some lube and let it sit.

Gotta exercise the parking brake from time to time or you end up replacing seized cables.

Under the dash appears to be working fine - I pull the lever, the cable moves, which moves the arm as far as it can go (it moves all the way to the stop) - except nothing releases. I use the parking brake all the time - the truck has only sat for around a week (and it hasn't been raining). If I pull the lever and then try to help the brake come back up - it won't move... I'll WD-40 the cables/etc under the truck. If anyone can think of anything else I'd really appreciate it - having it towed from where it is will NOT be fun...

Only other thing I could think is that it's caught on something out back. Trace the cables and see if it's binding somewhere.

Wait a minute, isn't there a spring back on the brake assembly. I'm in Afghanistan so I can't go out and look. See if it is still connected or broke.

hold the lever inside the truck and have someone pull on the cable under the drivers door.

Most likely the cables to the rear wheels are binding. I have to replace these cables about every other year on mine.

PS the ones form Ford do last longer than the ones from regular auto parts stores do.
