burning question

Alright, I know this topic comes up alot ,but here it is again.
I want to lower my truck.
As it sits , it sits about 6" higher in the rear.
I don't think this was the "stock" set up but that it was beefed for carrying.
Maybe beefed springs.

Eventually I want to bring the rear down level
and lower it another 4" over all.
What I want to know is,
Is there a way to lower the rearend with out additional "stuff" or fabrication.

I have heard about flipping the leaf spring mounts(not "flopping" the axle), to lower it.
Is this do-able and safe?

The leafs in the back are very rigid and I am also wondering if I could flop the axle with its stock set-up (merely putting the axle on top of the leaf without notching the frame, using my u-bolts.
Would they be strong enough to take the load.
I think the springs are rigid enough that the axle wouldn't hit the frame unless it was loaded with heavy cargo.

Eventually i'll probably do the dropped i-beams and lower the rear to.

Also if you have pics of your lowered ride, with a list of how you did it and approximate costs.

I know, alot to ask. Any useful comments or info is appreciated

Hi Dave, You have asked a big question, but didn't provide any information. Can you give us a little hint, what year model, series, engine tranny combo, truck are you referring to?

thanks

John

duh...my name is dave

Its a 66' f100 with a 351c CJ (and I assume the tranny) out of a 73' mustang.
I haven't actually decifered the tranny.
Its the stock rearend aside from what I think are beefed up springs.
I say that because of the ride height in the rear, its kind of high compared to all the stocks that I've seen.

see my gallery

thanks for the interest

dave

Dave,
I have a few pics of what I did to lower my 64 in my gallery.
"Is there a way to lower the rearend with out additional "stuff" or fabrication."
Sorry anything you do is going to involve large amounts of time and elbow grease.
But thats part of the fun.
Good luck with you project and keep us posted

I looked at your gallery pics, the rear doesn't look so high, looks about right from here.
