anyone else use an open element, and how did you do it???? I have some good idea's on how I am gunna do it, just would like some pics, get a few idea's on what works and what doesnt.
unless the stock box flows good enough, and seals great. but on the PSD's the stock box SUCKS. and leaks. then I will just leave it.
and it won't be stock for very long, keep that in mind.

I run a Purolator air filter, but I make up for the added restriction by making an air scoop behind the grill to give ram air to the filter.
Here is a picture of the front with the grill removed.

With the bugs and all that I am scooping up I change the filter every 5000 miles.
You do have to unhook the scoop when you are running in snow, rain and the rest do not bother it.
I used to run a K&N but I found it was not a good filter for the dusty conditions I am usually in. I do excavation work and see more dust in a day than lots of people see in a year.

Snow is the only time I unhook it.
I might not even have to do that, but since I plow snow I do kick a bunch up with the blade.
The only bad thing I see about an open element filter without ram air is the hot under hood air is what it will be sucking up.
I liked the Y pipe you have on your stacks.
It is almost exactly the same as the one I made for mine except the flat metal plate.
Was that a premade unit or did you make it?
I cut up two 90 degree ells and welded them back together so it had three three inch openings to make mine. Several people around here asked how I did it because they had used Tee's which did not balance the exhaust very well and had too much back pressure.
