Hello, I have a weird question. Is it possible to mount a CD player in the car in a verticle position? In other words, I would feed the CD's in straight down into the player. Is it possible to do that? Or is it not good for the player? Thanks guys.
That is not exactly correct. You will need to consult with each manufacturer to verify if your particular cd player can be mounted from zero to 90 degrees. For example I had a Pioneer 6 disc changer that had a switch that I had to manually adjust for when I moved it from a horizontal car mount to a vertical in cab truck mount. No problems either way. Now I have a newer Pioneer in dash deck and the manufacturer instructions advise the following in verbatim "If installation angle exceeds 60 degrees from the horizontal the unit might not give its optimum performance." Ie, greater chance of beam skipping and possible loss of vibration dampening capabilities of the built in hardware.
If you are dead set on a vertical install, at least power it up and test it vertically temporarily before mounting it permanently. That might save you some time, effort, and frustration if your vertical install doesn't work well.
Like cigarxtc said, check with the manufacturer. There are some that can work at 90* and there are some (like mine) that say to not mount more than 60* for optimum performance. This is only with the CD player part. You can use the radio and accessories (if so equiped) with no problem.
