I have an 84 E-150, 302 auto/air. When the blower motor, radio, or headlights draw current, the oil press gauge, fuel gauge, and temp gauge needles move to the right gradually to exaggerate the actual reading. Turn accessories off gauges slowly return to normal, alt gauge isn’t effected, does anybody have any ideas?
My 83 truck has the same problem. The problem is the cab ground to engine on my truck. Somewhere on your engine there is a ground connection from the body of your van. Clean it up and make sure it is OK. On my truck, it is near where the accellerator cable comes thru the firewall.
My truck used to scare me to death. Be driving along and the gauges would go sky-high. Then, I ran a wire from the NEG term on the battery, to the metal in the dashboard on the truck, where the grounds all terminate. Cured the problem enough for me to know that there is nothing wrong with my truck. I will be fixing this problem tomorrow (Sunday PM) Good luck with yours.
If the engine has been replaced recently, that would be even more reason to look at the grounds. Those little ground straps from the engine to the sheetmetal seem to be forgotten a lot when the engine is being replaced.
