Has anyone experienced any problems with the "zooman mod"? Problems with rain or snow getting in the air filter or worse? I am going to do the modification to my 6.0 assuming there have not been any problems!
Sorry, I guess I had the name wrong. It's not the "zooman Mod." It's called the Zoodad Mod. It is basically cutting a hole in front of the intake tube to create a ram air. I have read about some people that have done it and put screen material in front of the hole to keep the bugs out of the filter. My understanding is that it give the motor alot more air even with a stock filter. Has anyone that has done this had any problems?
If you search for Zoodad on here, you'll probably find some info on it. I know there's quite a bit of info over at the diesel stop site. Generally, people notice that they get more, cooler air into the intake, and they also say they get a little increase in the seat-of-the-pants readings. Some put screens over the hole, others don't. That's all I can really say on it... searching here at at TDS will help for sure.
I've had mine done for over a year now with no problems, I've driven in snow & heavy rain with no bad effects, I can't say there is much performance difference, maybe a little but it's been long enough ago that I don't remember,

Changed the title for you...

I recently drilled a 2.5" hole in my 2005 F250 PSD. My stock air filter has its inlet about 2" behind the flat radiator side-support panel (no lower snorkle). I may cut the intake tube shorter later. Seems to be an obvious improvement to open an air passage direct to filter before buying an aftermarket filter with this advantage. Pictures of engine damage by fautly aftermarket air cleaner performance are scary (maintenace of these is apparently critical).
Grill was easily removed with upper bolts and downward push of screwdriver on lower clips. I installed a short deflector in front and towards the side of the new hole to avoid possible direct shot of water through the grill. This measure was based upon responses in this forum.
Truck seemed to perform better (less lag) and pleasing growling sound near the grill. Also, I removed a piece of clear tape over 0.5" hole on top support edge in front of the secondary air line. Not sure of its original purpose for blocking air to this frame channel. I have not seen any comments on this yet.
FYI, so far my biggest fuel milage improvement with basically stock truck has been with synthethic oil use (~2 mpg).
Heavy Assault:
I have dont the same thing as you but without the cutting of the actual filter box i have only drilled the holes.. I have only had it for about 3 weeks now and only had a slight rain. How long have you had yours like this and have you ever checked your filter to see if it was wet after a heavy rain ...Mine is wide open with the holes as in no deflectors or screens whatsoever and i had a buddy give it some gas in park and i put my hand in front and that hole really sucks some air in. im a little worried now about how it might go down the high way in the rain sucking that water in... especailly us guys and gals with the 04 and below as you 05 guys have a little thicker grill blocking it.. Mine is clearly visable from the front of the truck....
thanks

I did the Zoodad mod just less than a year ago. I've driven in pouring rain and heavy wet snow to light fluffy snow. I have not experienced any issues other than better cool air to my turbo since the mod.
