I own a 1992 F-150 4x4 Flairside. it has a 302 in it. I have to change the head gaskets on the engine. When i do so i will be installing comp cams efi 302 cam for computer controlled 5.0L. I have a 302 H.O. block and i was thinking about getting the heads on that engine freshed up a little and install them on my non H.O. F-150. Should i do that will i see any really power gains? My other option is I have a set of 351w heads from 1972 i believe. I have no doubt that they have bigger valves then my E7 heads would they be the head to get some work done to and then install them on the efi pick-up? i have a set of shorty heades to install on the truck after i finish the gasket swap of couse new timing chain will be goin on aswell. I have put a flow master cat back dual exhaust on the truck aswell. the K&N upgrade to get rid of the factory air box and silencer is done aswell. The truck doesnt see much off road and it is my daily driver it will see some towing of my 86 stang to the drag races. anyways please let me know which head i sould go with. Does anyone run the bbk twin throttle body on there intake? is it any good?
Personally, I would leave the stock heads on the engine. But of the two choices you said, I believe the only one you can use on your engine as it sits right now are the 5.0 HO heads. The valves on the 351 heads are too large and will hit the block when opened, so I've been told.
I could be out to lunch on this one - I thought that the E7TE heads were usually the best candidate for the 302 engine, especially if you were going to have some porting and polishing work done on them. I have read many of the posts in this forum and the 302 engine forum on this topic as I plan on "doing up" my 302 in the early spring next year. I am pretty much going with exactly as you have done with your engine and I am definitely planning, at least for now, on going with a set of cleaned up E7TE heads. I hope that others post to this thread as I would be interested to see what some of the other current members think about the heads for a 302.
