Question Help! Door switch Reversed

Hi,

I Just got my 2004 F250 back from the Ford service Dept. It was in for the transmition service recall from earlier this year. Also worked on was a service recall for Air charge cooler clamp and a fuel injector control module wire harness that "may chafe on engine bolts".

Now what's happening is that truck thinks the door is open when it's closed and vice versa! The door ajar light is on when the door is closed and goes out when I open the door.
Also when I turn the key to off, the buzzer starts ringing like I opened the door and forgot to remove the key! If I open the door with the key in, the buzzer stops.

The dome light is also reversed. Fortuinatly, the accessory timer turns it off after a while, as if I had left the dome light on with the dash switch.

I showed the dealer this before I took the truck, but because they gave me such a runaround getting the service work done , I had to have the truck for tomorrow. I could bring it back, but I would rather fix this myself if I had an idea what was causing the problem.

Thanks,

Sid

So you had this problem before you took it in? Was any other work done before it suddenly started doing it? Like the door was replaced? Did you just buy this truck and it always did it?

What I am trying to figure out, is if someone has been messing with something, it could be very hard to find and the diagnoses may be different. For instance if you just bought the truck, and the door was replaced before you bought it, someone may have hooked the wires up wrong.

If it worked ok, and then suddenly started doing it for no reason, then you need to look for failure senarios such as a electronic module that has gone bad, or some wires that have broken in the door jamb area.

I bought this truck new last year. Never had any other work done on it or any issues whatsoever. No accidents or anything replaced. None of this happened till I picked it up today.

Thanks,
Sid

That's a bad sign. They replaced harnesses and stuff, so who knows what they have been messing with. Sorry to say, but because your truck is so new, it has all kinds of electronic modules and things that control the domelights, keyless entry, etc. I would take it back to them. Time to stand firm and make them fix it. I think I would go ahead and see if you can find some numbers to call Ford or someone higher up, just to have some ammunition ready in case the give you a hard time.

Thanks for your reply.
Thats what I will do. I have been taking notes on this whole ordeal. Just to let you know what has happened and why I wanted to fix it myself.

Called for appoint. 8-5-05
Told that in order to have parts on hand I should bring it in on 8-10-05. It would be a couple days job.
Dropped it off on 8-09-05
Called late on 8-10 -05 to see if it was possibly ready. I said I would check after work tomorrow. (8-11-05)I was told it probably wouldn’t late that day.

I checked later that day and that’s when they told me that I wouldn’t have it until the following Monday.
I told them I needed the truck for the weekend, but they said there was nothing that they could do.
I said that I needed things in the truck, and that’s when they told me that they didn’t even have the truck. They weren’t even sure where it was. It was at one of two transmission shops. I left.

I called back and they finally told me it was in an AMMCO shop a couple towns over.
I found my truck and got what I needed out of it.

Finally got it back today 9 days later.

It's a long shot

I had a similar problem on my 2001 F350. It seems the interior light control switch is located on the bottom of the latch assy. Mine was just dirty and a liberal dose of contact cleaner in the latch from the outside was all it took. Good luck.
