Alright I have a 92 f150 5.0L engine........I am curious about some bolt on performance upgrades that I can do to my truck to run better for drag racing purposes. I was thinking about getting some parts from jegs like.......
56mm twin throttle body
some kind of underdriver pullies?
nitto tires on the back most likely
Dont know where to get programming from but would like that?
Also some suspension work and cant seem to find anything for that either.
Can anyone help me out?
p.s. not sure if this would go here or in my class of truck
I have a 96' bronco w/ a 351 and have the BBK 56mm installed with Edelbrock Performer EFI manifold and have gotton minimal results from it. For any true power increase you have to match incoming flow with outgoing. I also have Bassani headers and Bassani cat back. All Im missing for a true increase is a matching cam and headers. I dont think any single bolt on by itself makes much of difference except forced induction or nitrous
Get some steaper gears, a 3.90 or a 4.10 gear will give a noticble gain and they aren't to expensive. Forget the throttle body that will most likly hurt your low end power. I know that under drive pullies and an electric will give a small (notice i said small) gain that you can feel, and if you shop around you can get both for under $200 very easy.(if your lucky under $180) A set of headers would be a good investment
If you get a cam you should get heads....other wise your not going to get the maximum potential out of it. Basically you will starve it. I am getting the heads, intake, T-body, headers, exhaust, pullies, electric fan, and a cam....but you dont really need a cam, and i would also get a good msd ignition or something.
Well I have headers, intake, straight exhaust no muffler, cat I also I have the ford 8.8 back end but they are not lsd so i would have to get the lsd and the gears as well which cost total about 500 to 700 dollars which includes installation...Also I dont want to go that steep in gears so I was thinking 3.73s or 3.55s not sure most likley go 3.73s which I have no in my firebird
What intake are you running? A MAF conversion would be a good idea if you plan on putting on heads and changing the cam. Gt40p heads off a 96-01 explorer would be an improvment over the stock truck heads, the intake off the explorer would also help. If you're lucky you can pick up an entire explorer long block for ~ $500.
