Does anyone know what changes were made to the 460 "RV" engine. I am looking at a replacement for my 83 Class C RV and I am told it has a very special engine. Well that is what the rebuilder is telling me. Any input would be very helpfull!
No Ford did not make an RV version of the 460. (per FOMOCO) Most if not all of the engine rebuilders are stating they will not warrenty their engine if it is not an RV version placed inside an RV. I have talked to three major rebuilders and they all stated that because of loading and heat, RV engines seem to be beat by RV owners. So their rebuilds all have a the following added to the standard rebuild: Different valves, better valve seals, RV Grind cam, highoutput oil pump. And last, rubber gaskets instead of rtv'd cork. All rebuilders I talked to will void the 3year + warrenty if it is not a RV Rebuild. The end result is the as good or bettrer then factory saying by rebuilders does not apply. They lower the warrenty to one year and charge more for their modes if it is an RV build. Just thought I would post for others, just in case they ever have to pass the path I am.
FYI, I did find a local rebuilder that is going to rebuild my 460 "L" and is going to place a 3 year warrenty on it, even knowing it is being placed in a overly large cube van.
