im just now getting ready to port the heads. do i need to alot or just knock down the bumps in the exaust ports.

You do not need a lot of porting work. The intake ports are OK with only flashing removal and bowl work.

The exhuast ports shold have the bumps removed and polished as best you can. The elbow bend needs to be straightened a little.

You never polish an intake port. The rough surface helps keep the fuel from sticking to the surface, and in the mixture.

You don't need to make the ports larger, just reduce the restrictions.

should i take the valves out of the heads before i start porting the heads
