i have a 79 ford truck with a ford 9 inch rear end and i need to pull an axle to find out what splilne it is i have the tire off and the flange off but it wont come out it there anythng else that has to come off or do i just start prying it with a crow bar and a hammer
Did you remove the 4 bolts behind the flange. After you remove them it will still be to snug for prying it out.
A slide hammer with an axle flange works best, your local Autozone should be able to rent or loan you one.
A poorboy method I've used is to attach a chain to the wheel studs at each end of the chain so it forms a loop. Take something heavy an old junk axle or heavy walled pipe something you can swing. Slip it in the loop and practice your golf swing.

I just use a long piece of big chain, say 10 to 15 feet long, bolt one end to the axle and stretch it out, leave a little slack in the chain and whip it like you would crack a whip,....be warned though.... this can bend axle studs and even break the chain.... I use a hard hat and keep my head down when doing this....
