Trailer Harness Question
I plan on towing a horse trailer which will have a deep discharge battery in it for it's own lighting when it is disconnected from the truck. My plan on charging the battery is to connect the 12V output from the trailer harness through a combiner to the battery. The combiner is basically just a fancy relay with circuitry that engages it when voltage is over 13V so that when the engine is not running, the external battery will not be connected to the truck battery.
My concern is that when the trailer battery is low and the truck starts, the current rating for the wiring through the harness will not be sufficient to handle the current required to charge the discharged battery. Does anyone know what that circuit is rated for and if there is a circuit breaker or fuse in the circuit? Also...what guage wire is used in the circuit.
Thanks in advance.
