Selling advice

I need some advice on what to do with my 89'. I bought it as winter transportation while my F-150 was getting it's 393, and I got it to take the ZF out of it and put it behind the 393.

The 89 has about 145k miles on it, runs decent. But it's sort of a POS and I duno what to do with it. Either sell it outright, sell it for parts, junk it, take some parts off it for myself and junk it...yada yada...

Heres the problems...

Minor intake leak makes it idle slightly rough, but not bothersome.

Needs:

4wd hubs - junkyard $20-$30
Alignment - ??
Clutch chatter - resurface flywheel/new pressure plate - $90
Clutch bleeding not right - time
Rear axle pinion bearings - $80-$100
Fix rust on lower cab corners - $30-$50
Needs tires - $$ (depends on how much I can get a used set)
Possible tie rods/steering work - possible $50
Leaking PS pump needs fixing - possibly free
Tailgate is shot - iffy on replacing

Thats all I can think of now...

Parts that have been replaced recently:

Ball joints
u-joints
clutch disc - slave cyl
EGR and EVP sensor
Starter
Battery

The problem is, it's going to cost me a good $400+ and a lot of time to fix this truck to be able to sell it for good money. I bought the thing for $800.

I'm not sure what the heck I should do with it...time is money but I kinda would hate to just send it off to the junkyard. With those items fixed it would be a decent truck.

It's also got some kind of good rattling going on in the front end that I can't pin down. I can't find anything loose, and I can't figure out why but it sounds terrible over bumps and dips. Feels like something is loose in the suspension but I can't nail it down.

I just don't evne know where to start with this thing...I'm hoping this thread will help...anyone have any insite? I'd kinda like to pull the motor and rear end...and junk the rest of it...but there's so many options that I duno what to do

Sounds like a candidate for parting out and junking the rest.

Part it out. The front axle won't get you much, the rear should still fetch you a couple hundred dollars, especially if its a 10.25. The running 351 should get you 100-200 bucks at least. Does it have your old M5OD? That could fetch a few hundred dollars from somebody who fragged their M5OD. Transfercase...maybe 100 bucks. I'd say you can come out ahead concidering the cost of buying a ZF outright..if you could part it out for even 3-400 dollars you'd be out way ahead.

Well, if I part it out, I'd take the 10.25 for my F-150. I could part the TC and the Trans, the motor is good and I'd rather keep the motor but don't have a use for it.

The thing is, I can do all the labor myself so I don't have to pay anyone, it's just my cost of parts. And I am having a hard time trying to figure out whether or not I am able to repair what should be repaired in order to get a decent price for it if I sold it. In decent running condition it's worth 1500-1800. The kicker is that the things that are wrong are things I can fix, and it's buggin' the crap out of me. Realistically, I'd rather keep it but I can't.

Well, what's your time worth? Working on your own truck to make it nicer is one thing, but fixing up a beater to sell it is another - think about spending the rest of your summer working it vs. spending time with your girlfriend or with your buddies wheeling and drinking beer. Easy choice if you look at it that way.

I already have the 95 for wheelin', all that needs is a real off road suspension and it would be one heck of an off road rig. Already have 1 ton axles in store for it. Just gotta work out the front suspension for the king pin d60

I'm also gonna be pickin up a 94 cobra I think, so that'll make my 95 more of a project truck then it already is, right now it's mainly what I drive.

I'm leaning more and more to putting it in the ads for parts...

I'm going to price out the tires, and see if I can get the bearings for the rear axle cheaper then I have seen, play with the numbers some more and see what kind of a decision I can come up with.
