351 c carb settings?
Hi all!!
I just purchased a 72 f-100 that has had a 351 c installed, the engine won't idle at all cold...stalls out if you put it in gear ect...anyone have hints or tips for default settings. I have a 9 hour drive to go pick the truck up and then drive it back so I'd like to have it running a bit better before i try. I believe its a factory ford 700 double with an electric choke. The choke seems to be working fine as it starts with no problems...
Thanks n adavance for any ideas
I must say this is by far the best site I have ever found for auto info =)

you might take a look at the choke. there are three screws on the side cover of it. on the cover there should be writing that either says lean with an arrow or it says summer and winter. there are two settings for the choke. if its set to winter you need to adjust the choke by loosening the three screws and rotating the housing to the appropriate spot then tighten the screws and try it. hope this helps

And I want to add that backing out the screws gives your engine more air. Tightening them gives the engine less. When you put the engine in gear, you're putting more of a load on the engine. If you're jets are correct then you probably have enough fuel to burn but not enough air to burn it with.

Wow.. Thanks all
Some really good Ideas in a very short time. I appreciate all the knowledge being passed down. Does anyone know the relationship between manifold vacuum pressure and the fuel mixture settings. I figured I could take a guage along as well and play with the settings that QMAN was talking about. I have a foggy memory of having to do that with my old 350 in my chevelle years ago.???
Once again thanks
