Does anybody have a front facing child seat in their single cab trucks? My neice is about 2 years old and it would be nice if I can use a car seat so that I can pick her up fro daycare. Is there anything special I can get to keep the seat belt tight? Unlike the backseat of cars, front seat belts stay loose untill a collision. Thanks alot.

 

I have one in my 92 f-150 if you pull it tight from the passengerside with the door open and don't use that steel seat belt connector it dosent come loose at least mine hasn't.

 

a ratchet strap and a couple of mounts in the floor. be creative. i know a guy that did it in the back seat of a chevy s10 and it seemed to work. i'd put my daughter in there without any worries.

 

My recommendation is don't put any child in the front seat of any
type of vehicle no-matter what kind of restraint system you have.
That is the responsible thing to do. And im sure your safe and all,
but if you go online im sure there a web site that will concur with
what im saying, It's not a good idea.

 

I bolted a 3/16" thick bracket to the floor with a track bolt. I used a Britax seat and the tether looped over the top of the seat and hooked onto my new floor bracket and used the shoulder harness to lock the seat onto the bench seat. I took it to the Pennsylvania State Police for their opinion on safety. I was rewarded with a "good job" as they wish all parents took the time to secure their children's seat. When I hooked it up, I sit in the seat (6'-5" 220 lbs. looks funny siting there) and then tighten the belts. I've been in a dirt track late model the seat and this was rock solidly mounted like the racecar.

 

don't wanna start an argument over this, but you can find a website to back up pretty much anything nowadays. Just found a website the other day that swore up and down that the sky was really green and the rest of the world just never noticed it. ok enough joking...

honestly, i feel much safer with my daughter in the front seat of my 92 F150 than i do when she's in the back seat of her mother's 91 hyundai excel. If I had a passenger side airbag, it would certainly be a different story, but I still like having a lot of metal around her. unless the carseat itself fails, she ain't going anywhere as the result of a bad accident.

Do you have any reason for this? I can't stand when people are outraged w/the thought of a child in the front seat of a full size truck, but wouldn't see anything wrong about putting the child in the back seat of a geo metro or, as flareside said, a hyundai excel. The front seat of my truck is probably further back from the front bumper than the backseat of some small cars. If i'm rear ended the other car would have to get through an 8' bed before it crunches into the cab. If i'm T-boned a cars bumber is going to hit a few feet below the child seat. Anybody else agree w/me here? I understand about crumple zones on new cars and whatnot, but if you've ever seen an accident between a car and a truck, the truck's occupants are usually in much better shape.

good point jessfacter. our trucks will far much better than any import or american car in a wreck, unless its lifted redicuosly high and then it will roll over.

 

my only problem with a childseat in my single cab truck would be how rough the ride is, a baby's head might just pop off, and if that doesnt happen im sure my ears would from the crying lol. but seriously the only time these trucks are really less safe than a small car is if you hit a giant steel reinforced brick wall, or anything that you cant just go right through. Me personally i have no plans of hitting a tank, which is about the only thing i wouldnt get through.

Just so you know my kids still dont ride in the front of my wifes
expedition and they don't ride in the front of my f250 and if they
ride in our focus its 1.5 mi to the store and back. My oppion is kids
should not ride in the front of any vehicle unless of a certain age
or size. And i cant off hand refer a site for kid restraint or position
im sure there is alot of it online if you search

 

i1dery, i totally agree with you if the vehicle is equipped with an airbag. i took a nasty shot from an airbag once and i certainly wouldn't want to see a child get hit like that.

what is the fear you have of having a child in the front? do you think they'll go thru the windshield or something? my daughter's carseat is built better than a 5 poiint harness. The only concern I have is keeping the carseat attached to the bench seat.

 

if its a sing cab truck thats equipped with an airbag the airbag can be disabled by the simple turn of a key for this very reason.
