Cool Torque spec..... & a rant!

I need the wheel torque spec, 98, 4x4, expy, 5.4, 255/70r16 if that makes a difference, it is not in my book, and I called my 2 closest dealers and they told me that tire rotation was a factory serviced item for a measly $49.95!!!! No that did not include rebalancing that was an additional $8.00 per tire and I had to leave the vehicle there for 3-4 hours!!!!!!!

CHAMPION FORD IN NASHVILLE, TN!

These are the same clowns who told me it would take 1.5-2 hours labor to change out the PVC hose assembly on my truck!!! Which I did in about 15 minutes!!!

You'll get a lot of differing opinions on this subject. Wheel torque has more to do with mounting stud thread size and wheel material than it has to do with wheel/tire size. Aluminum wheels with what I call a "washer-faced" hole should be torqued to about 90 ft/# on 12mm studs and no more than 110 ft/# with 14mm studs. I check the torque monthly on my '02 4x4 14mm stud 16"-aluminum wheeled Expy and have had no loosening at 100 ft/#. A steel wheel has what I call a "raised hole" that may require a different torque spec. that is unknown to me. Perhaps a steel-wheeler on this forum can advise you if you have steel wheels. I won't even address wet or dry values on torque; that'll really create a poop-storm here. By the way, any business's advice, including a car dealer's, is no better than the knucklehead answering the phone.
