1998-2000 explorers/mountaineers

my parents are looking to get an explorer or a mountaineer. they're wanting to pull a popup camper with it. We have roughly an $8000 budget but would like to maybe get something for $7000 ish.

What type of things should we look for when buying a vehicle such as these? I just need general information to look for when test driving and inspecting the vehicle.

Thanks for any suggestions and help you can give me.

If you are going to be pulling a trailer I would suggest getting the V8 with a tow package make sure it has the trans cooler.

The v6 will do good. just make sure you find one with the tow package. and there are no problems with the tranny. you should find one for about $5000. I know here in NC that is about what they are running for a pretty good one.
