Over the weekend my wife washed my pants and they had my key fob and key in the pocket.
I let them dry over night and they work fine
That's the key with anything electronic: don't use it until it's dry. An old technique I would use on keyboards that would have soda spilled on them was to wash them in hot water (after taking the cover off) to get all the soda out and then just let them dry for a couple of days. (That was back when they cost $100 each.)
one thing that I have noticed about my key fob is that the distance on these things STINK. my 02 ranger edge had 2-3 times the distance kinda defeats the purpose if i have to be standing less than 5-10 feet away to unlock the doors might as well just use the key
If I hold my key fob at shoulder level, I can unlock the truck from about 75 feet (my best measurement by counting steps). If I keep it at waist level the distance drops some. I've also found that the distance is (as one would expect) affected by the number and type of obstacles between me and the truck.
I agree on the range of these things. I can lock the doors on my wifes windstar from my kitchen counter( signal has to travel through three walls and about 100' total). I have to step outside and point it straight at my truck to make it work.
I'll put it this way... I don't need the horn because usually when the signal finally works I'm close enough to hear the locks unlock.
I shouldn't complain too much being that I have not tried new batteries but they didn't work any better when new.
Anytime you get any electronics equipment wet, remove the power as soon as possible and let dry. You might want to pry it open and remove the battery before corrosion sets in. Then again, it might be water proof and still under warranty.

Just a heads up incase it happens to anyone else.
Not sure about them going in the dryer.
I just helped out a co-worker with this last week. He was tinkering around the the remote (chevy ), so I asked his was was up. He said he left the remote and keys in his pocket and his wife had washed them AND put them in the dryer. So I said let me take a look....poped it open and there was still water in there. So I took it apart, cleaned up everything with alcohol and put it back together. One of the contact of the circuit looked fried, but I told him to give it a try. It worked, and I got a free lunch

My 2003 F-150 had excellent range for the remote key fob. The 05 SCREW is awful. I have not tried using my head as an antenna yet as tomdoggie suggests (kidding!) but I did take it back to the dealer and they reprogrammed it -- no noticeable difference. My biggest concern is my old habit of walking away from the truck and pushing the button from 30 feet away, and then it doesn't honk, so I stop and go back and do it from 10 feet away. Not the most endearing feature on the new truck......
