Hey Guys I've got a great truck 04 F-250 super duty 6.0. I'm getting 18 mpg and could be better if I keep my foot out of it. I have 29,000 miles on it with no problems and I see no recalls listed for the vin of this truck. I have changed the oil every 2-3k miles. Now I'm ready to change the tranny oil. Has anybody had any trouble doing this? My last F-150 went 200K with no problems using this time table for oil changes so I thought I'd keep it the same. I never take my cars to the dealer until I'm about to go nuts trying to fix them myself
( d*m computers).
At what point (miles) do you think I can switch to Aimsoil ? 29K broke in?
Any thing I need to know about the tranny oil change?
Thanks for your input.

I just did a drain and fill with the external filter change, no problems just make sure you use Mercon SP only. You have plenty of miles for a change to synthetic, just be advised to use certified oil. good luck
Look up in the front passenger side corner of your truck. It is 4 or 5 inches tall, aluminium, round with a hex head on the end. If you cannot find it, when you go to the dealership for the mercon sp and filter they can show you were it is.
Just did my tranny, took 10.5 qts to refill. This isn't a total fill, because you can't drain the converter. There is a way to drain more fluid, but it entails running the trans dry, and then filling and repeating the process.
complete waste of money if the converter is not flushed, its like draining all but 2 quarts of your oil and putting new in, makes no sense. and it just a waste of money to change so often but it is your money.good luck.
Hey Navy, make sure the Amisol you use is certified, and do some research on synthetics in general. From what I can gather it has much more additives than most synthetics, and less actual synthetic oil than say Rotella or Mobil1. I have been using Mobil1 to help protect the turbo as it has a higher "coke" temp than dino oil, not to mention the potential mileage increase. This article is by a guy who really seems to be in the know, & I think it is a good read regardlesss. It has been posted here b4. http://www.boss302.com/oil.htm
I actually spoke with him thru email several times & he has oil down pat. Also if you had the recall done they changed all th tranny fluid at that time.
