This would be a good time to pull up old Motor Trend articles...they make good comparisons of handling. I used to read those all the time, never saw that type of material on the 01, except what we talked about before.
The '94-'98 Mustang would be one of the only newer cars I'd ever get in the future, especially the '94-'95. It's my favorite modern bodystyle Mustang, and of course the 5.0 needs no introduction.
Get a set of sub-frame connectors. Aftermarket springs and shocks. Good tires and that car will handle like a dream. From there you can upgrade rear control arms. Then front a-arms. I personnally have 2 sets of sub-frame connectors on my mustang and it handles very well even with a 514 up front.
BTW you can't beat the Mustang aftermarket. Even Cameros don't have the suspension choices we have. And they benefit from all the parts a Mustang does. They just come better prepped from the factory.
Its really your choice but for a daily driver and play toy the Mustang is hard to beat. Try for a 94-95 with the 5.0. Much cheaper to modify with better gains. Btw look at the 1/4 times for the 95 and 96 mustang gt's. I couldn't find Cobra numbers. Not much difference. If you want a modular motor try to find a '99+ with the revised heads.
i just traded in a 04gt and i loved the car.just was not practical for me cuz i needed a truck.but if you get one i would deff. look into the 99-05 models due to the horsepower.the older models looked better i think but they forgot to put motors in them.my freind has a 96gt with xhaust, headers, air intake, drag radials, mass air, computer reprogrammed,373 gears.the 04gt stock was still faster. http://www.gotstang.com/profile.php?40thgt&page=1 this was the 04 stang i just got rid of and heres my freinds 96 http://www.gotstang.com/profile.php?stang96281
Well your buddy didn't do mcuh to the motor that would make it have much more power over stock. Do a HCI swap on a 5.0 and you'll blow the doors off that 04 for 1/2 the price.
