fuel leak HELP!!!!!

I was changing my glow plugs and I was going to remove a fuel line from the injector pump to a injector. In order to fit my rachet extension. I unthreaded the fitting a bit then stopped. I decided to just pry the line over. I changed the GP and tightened the fitting back up. I started it up and it is leaking. I tighened it some more and still leaks abit. I can't tighten anymore or I'll break the injector. Was I suppose to put any kind of selant in there? Or is it a double flared line and I wreaked the flare by over tightening it? Please Help!!!

it sounds like it may have cracked, but before you get too excited, did you by chance disturb the plastic cap? Is it possible that you may have cracked the plastic cap? It will bubble up under the nut, not out the top if this were the case. If it comes out the top of the nut/line, then you most likely cracked the line. You could try lightly tapping on the top of the line with a hammer to seat it, but I have my doubts this will work...

Loosen the line nut right off, try seating the line in the top of the injector. then holding the line firmly in place screw the nut down to hold the line. 22ftlbs torque for the line nut....... post back with results/questions.

if its the line with the extended fitting (timing adapter) on top, you may have loosened that one too and they need to be retightened separately. You may have cross threaded the lines when installing them (??) I spent my nickel, hope it helps.

It's not crossthreaded , I never completely unthreaded the fitting. About the plastic cap , I'm not to sure what that is. I work 14-16 hours a day I'll probably won't get back to it until the weekend.

the plastic cap is for the return lines, the lines between injectors attach to them. Many times they get either cracked or disturbed and start leaking. After being in the same position for a long time, then get moved, the o-rings inside tend to leak.

I removed the fitting and inspected the flare and It looks alright. I see the plastic piece. I don't see no cracks in the plastic I enclosed pictures. The screwdriver is pointed where the fuel was leaking. right in the threads in between the fitting and the plastic piece. How do I determine if its the plastic peice or O-ring inside????

generally they get replaced to gether, kinda sounds like it is coming up from the inside, which generally is the o-rings. You can buy a complete kit for that, not too terribley expensive if I recall, or you may be able to buy just the one.

Thanks for the quick response. I didn't really look but is it a big job to change the O-ring?

have to take the line loose again and then it comes right orr the top, put the o-rings on, put cap on, put line back on.

Might be just as easy to load the image into your gallery, and just refer everyone there...

From experience when you change one of the O ring sets, you might as well change them all. When you remove the lines from the cap to replace the O rings, the two caps next to it will be leaking within a day or two.

When I change the O rings in one cap, I do all of them. While you are in there if the return lines are looking old and starting to crack, you might as well do them also.

I took the plastic piece off. I removed the top o-ring clean all the dirt around and reinstalled it. And what do you know , it sealed. The o-ring was in good condition so I reassemled it. Just like the last guy said a different one just started leaking. The first one that leaked was the first cylinder on the left bank and the second one was the last cylinder on the right bank.the clamps for the return lines fell apart. I'll call Ford and see how much the o-ring set is.

Better to go to IH or somewhere like us diesel or such. You can go to the Ford dealer, but you will get better parts from IH... looks like the set is around $27

Hey fellro86, I have the same issues with my '93 IDI, I went to the parts links you posted but can't find the parts listed for my rig, do you have another source?
