New to boards and Ford Trucks.

Hello all,

First off I would like to say that this place looks to be a fantastic resource for frod truck enthusiasts. I have been lurking for a couple of months to kinda get a feel for things here before posting and I love it so far. I have found many answers to my prolems with my '73 F-100 short bed that have driven me crazy before consulting the boards.

I got my baby for $600 from a finance company that deals with car lots as a repo. She is in really good shape bpdy wise other than the fact that some idiot sprayed her with white paint over the original green metallic factory paint.....GRRRRR. She does however have a hideous locker box type work truck bed that has got to. I plan to put a stepside bed with a wooden plank type floor in her if I can find one. That is of course if I can get her running right.

I have a question posted in the Carb forum on my latest problem that is driving me nuts if anyone is interested....:P .

thus far I have about $1500 in her including purchase price and I am running low on fundage. So far I have replaced the valve covers with Edelbrock signature series chrome ones with a chrome breather on the passenger side instead of a PCV, removed, cleaned and repainted the factory exhaust manifolds and put in new gaskets there. (I couldn't find any aftermarket headers that could clear the starter motor/tranny), A Mr. Gasket chroime breather cover for the air cleaner, new Accel 8mm universal fit wires. new distributor cap and rotor, new plugs, all fluids and filters. I replaced the tranny with a C-5 because some moron put a C-3 Metric in her that didn't work of course.

One of my concerns has been that about 90% of the emmissions control equipment was ripped out or disconnected from her and I am worried that the valve cover breather will mess things up. Theat and the fact that I have a lot of Vaccuum lines that I have no idea where they all go and the Haynes manual I got is all but useless for this. Should I consider looking into getting a non-EGR intake and carb like the Edelbrock 1403 500 CFM carb? Just to be on the safe side?

Also What is the EGR valve and what does it do exactly? I can't seem to find any info on it. Is is possible to change out the intake to a non-EGR configuration or will this screw up the engine.

Sorry for the book. I had a lot of questions and wanted to tell you all about my new baby. Thanks in advance for any info and help.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Oct-02 AT 05:15 PM (EST)]Ive got a line on a stepside short bed for her but the guy is asking $300 for it.

As far as the bed goes I live in North Carolina right now near Asheville. Would it be too far for you to travel?

BTW none of the locks on the tool boxes work and the bed has been sprayed white just like the truck. It also has a rather ridiculous camper shell attached on top.

I have no idea what the poerson who last owned her was thinking.

Ahem.... I suggest that offers to sell and trade be carried out in private messages. It is against the rules otherwise.

If you put your state and your nearest metro area in your profiles it would help others.

Congratulations on the truck buy, they are fun to play with.
