pesky problem

get you a can of WD40 or either and spray around your vaccum lines/intake/carb/
if engine rpm rises anytime during spraying
that area is where a leak is

also check you fuel filter that can cause the unerload problem

also you should check each wire making sure there fireing hot and with no archs or breaks

pesky problem

thanks. but i've check for vacum leaks with acytlene, the fuel filter has been replaced, and usually act's up under load, suring hard acceleration, and i checked the wires after dark, with a misting spray bottle...

pesky problem

I think it may be the vacuum advance not giving you enough advance. Sometimes it'll make an engine run kind of like you described, bucking and hitching. Try turning it in a turn at a time until you get spark knock under a light load, like going up a long hill, then back it off until it quits.
