has anyone else here put Summits 514 stroker crank in their 460? or have you known someone who did? i am curious about this crank, and i am thinking about putting it in my truck.
if your talking about the eagle crank that summit sells, one of the guys I race with is running one, and it's working pretty good. I saw the crank when he first got it, and it looked pretty nice.
If you talking about the ford motorsport one it's the same as in thier crate motors I personlly don't like it because it's set up with standard BBF rod journals which limits your rod, and piston choices, plus it's a bigger bearing which isn't really good at high rpms.
BTW eagle has just recently come out with 4.3, and 4.5 stroke cranks too (to compete with scat which has had those for a long time)
I am running a 4.3" cast steel (same as both eagle and scat) stroker crank from AMS racing which gets the raw casting from the same place as Eagle, I turn it to 7600 rpms real easy, and am putting around 800hp through it with no problems so I don't think you will have any problems with that eagle.
i have a heavy foot, and i like to drive my truck fast, which it can do, but i would like to add some extra torque to the motor. do you think that would be a good addition?
Well yeah I think that a stroker will give you a lot more torque, and hp. If it was me I would run with the 4.3" stroke as it's a good comprimise on increased CID without really getting crazy on the stroke, doesn't cost any more to build than the 4.14" stroke and has an additional 18 cid.
Ain't no substitute for cubic inches.
Well it's what ford uses in thier 514 which is what you get with the 4.3 at standard bore, but with a .030 over bore (which is what the ford crate motors actually are) you actually get 521. The 4.14" stroke crank has to have a .080 over bore to get the 514 (or actually 512) if you run a .080 bore with a 4.3 crank you get 532 cid.
