HAs anyone ever ever swapt a 390 into a 90 150 4x4 to replace a 300 six? I have the whole drive train so thats not a problem matching things up, the main thing i'm thinking is the motor mounts and trany mount/ location. If i make this motor chang it's gotta be cheap. Thanks for any help and info
Get out your welder and tape measure, that's all I can tell you. Physically, there should be plenty of room under there. I do like the idea, as I've been contemplating a new home for my new 390.
I was Hopeing maybe someone knew of a company that made swap kits or something like that.Something like the kits they make to put a 460 into a half ton truck.
I'm pretty sure I can say, with all certainty, that nobody makes a swap kit for an FE into that truck. The fact that there's a 460 swap kit kind of precludes it. They dont see anybody buying such a kit. I would go get the perches and motor mounts for an FE from an old truck that had an FE in it, from the junkyard. Then modify as necessary. I think that would be the easiest way. If you're trying to get around using a welder, I think you're out of luck.
Edit: I will do some looking around for swap kits, since I'm kind of in the same boat as you, and I'll let you know what I find. I dont think I'll turn up anything, but I'll look.

I was just having some wishfull thinking. And hopeing for an easy way, yeah right i know better. The joys of not having a welder, garage, money, etc.......
The 460 probly has way different mounts if my luck has it. Thanks fer the help
Well, consider some facts here... the way many are getting the 460's into the Fox body mustangs is to use the FE mounts on the 460, it can't be too much different... they are using the factory frame mounts on the 'stangs. The best way to find out is to do some looking and measuring. If you want it bad enough and have the skills, it can be done. The fact that the motors haven't been made since 76 makes it to where it just isn't popular enough to be supplied well.
It's not gonna be for racin, just for fun. I'm runnin the motor now in a 78 and its puttin out around 325 hp and 430 lbs, and if a do the swap i'm puttin the solid axle in the front too. I was tryin to sell the 90 but nobody wants to pay for a rust free truck in Ohio, thus the idea of the swap comes about.
