I painted a bit as a kid- there was a lot of laquer and a bit of enamel. Now I want to paint again in a vane attempt to relive the better parts of my youth and find that there is not only laq- but acrylic, urethan, varathane, poly, apoxy and all sorts of other chemicals to use in prep and different temps and......HVLP guns???????....whew. (I'm still up on the bodywork thank god)
I like to read and learn though so this is a good if not great thing. I also have a '77 that needs work and I just bought my son a 'project' '83 bronco for $600...doesn't take a lot of imagination there now does it!
So what is a great....and current reference that I can getr and study to bone up on this chemistry and technique?? I will want to expand my horizon to create paint on these rigs if you get my drift.
I found a good book at HF to my surprise, on painting / autobodywork. I learned how to paint my own truck and what little else I know about it, from hanging out on the Q&A internet auto paint forums, and by purchasing the do-it-yourself-tapes, sold by those forums. Type in autobodypaint, autobodystore, paintucation or the like, in your search browser. That should give you some good paint forum hits. Dont forget to come back here and let us watch your project, we want to learn too good luck on your re-adventure. jmo
Just blundered into a good website to learn from called Autobody 101...you might check it out. I found the forums pretty useful in sorting out supplied air respirator systems.
