air pump check valve

My 95 351 bronco is going to get a check valve replaced in the air pump circuit, and I was wondering just how to do that since I can't even see it. This particular valve is connected to the hose that has a tube to feed air to the heads on the firewall side. I can smell exhaust fumes from the diverter valve discharge, so I'm thinking this check valve is kaput. Any help from someone who has done this is appreciated.

I would bet that the tube that connects to both heads and to the check valve is the source of the exhaust leak. The tube is thin walled and mine had three holes in it when I got the truck. It's a pita to get at, there should be one bolt at each end of the tube (one into each head) and the check valve has a hose clamp connecting it to a short piece of rubber hose. Even if the tube is ok, it's probably best to remove the tube and valve to replace the valve. Good luck. I hope this info is good for your '95 351. ...Terry '90 F150, 3r02
