They are new to me - guess the trucks I am used to were not this refined. Anyway, the leaf springs under my 59 have a round pad under the ends of the main leafs, which are indented to hold the pad in place. (see picture) There is also a nylon type channel under the spring straps - also new to me.
I am cleaning and painting my springs and want to replace these pads. Anyone know what they are called and where I could get new ones?
Yep, they are called leaf spring buttons. Any good spring shop should have them or you could probably order them from NAPA. If they aren't worn thru, you could reuse the old ones, but don't leave them out or you'll be in a bind (pun intended).
PS don't paint the leafs where the buttons ride.
Thanks Ax - I will try NAPA. As to painting, I had intended to paint the entirety of each leaf. I was on the Eaton website this morning and they said not to paint the interleaf area - the paint would wear away in time and leave the spring shackles loose.
This, they said, would lead to a broken spring in the thru-bolt area. I guess there is such a thing as doing too much to clean up these old girls.
Thanks for the "button" name. I was in a bind and even they did not mention "buttons."
