Poor results
I get pinging now using plus-grade gas with the A/C on when I didn't used to before the treatment. Will this go away? The 89 octane used to prevent the pinging in the summer.
pull codes on ECU, may have bad injector or other problem that will put out a code.
don't think any of the Aero 4L ever were designed with a mechanical distributor but timing could be off in ECU programming. Ford played around with the ECU/PCM programming for several years on the 4L trying to get it right. Believe the 4L ECU/PCM electronic distributor sets idle timing at 10d BTDC with operating temp engine.
disconnect negative battery lead for 10 minutes so that ECU/PCM clears NOVRAM and defaults back to default factory programming and relearns parameters for your engine specifics.
pinging can also be caused by too hot a heat range of spark plug. pull plugs and check lt. tan or gray is good, all look the same, no blisters or large deposits? sometimes deposits can become lodged under the ground lug of plug that will not come out with Seafoam decarbonizing that will heat up and cause pre ignition.
Use only Autolite part # APP765 or Motorcraft Double Plats in the 4L, pre gapped to 0.054" but double check, someone is always opening boxes in store and dropping plugs.
try a pint of water down the brake booster tube, slow pour at 2 to 3,000 rpm.
