I'm in the process of building a 400 to install in my 1930 Coupe. I'm following the Hot Rod magazine formula to the letter except I'm using Australian 302 Cleveland heads to up the compression and get better flow. These heads are hard to find here in the States but common as dirt in Oz as the 302-C was manufactured there well into the 80's.
Hot Rod magazine did a 400 buildup a few years ago, here's a link to the article scans:

Almost chose this combo for my 73 Ranger, but a different, torquier approach was taken instead................
Hey Bob, I was wondering if you could email me with the details of your rebuild. I've got a 351m and want to build as a stock 400. This will be my first rebuild, and need as specific info as you can give. I'd appreciate it a lot.
Hey, thanks for those websites, I was wondering where I was going to get all my parts for my restore, anyway... What do you think of instead of rebuilding my 400, putting a 429 or 460 in there.
