Cool 90 Slave problem

Hello,
I am working on my sons 90 f150 with the 5 speed trans. I can not get the line off the slave no matter what I try. Is there another way to get it off? The white clip does not move at all. ONE other problem, the shifter bolt will not pull all the way out. Should it???

Thanks

If you can't get that white collar to move in you won't be able to separate that line. And if you can't, you'll have to cut it off like I did and buy a new line from Ford at about $40-$50 bucks. But, after cutting the line I realised it wasn't a bad idea because it was all full of gunk and I'm sure it didn't flow fluid very well.

I forget if the bolt comes out, but if you can loosen it and take the shifter off then I guess your ok...but are you having trouble getting the shifter off?

All you have to do it remove the THREE screws holding the shifter on. The third screw is in the back and sometimes buried under gunk and very hard to see. Once you remove them, it just lifts right out.

I don't know what you mean by a shifter bolt, either.

Shouldn't this be in the tranny forum?

The shifter only has one bolt going sideways thru it. It is tappered.

This thread is an in-betweener because he was just simply talking about getting the hydraulic line off and getting the shifter off...he'd get a better response here.

I believe to remove the shifter the way your talking, you need to loosen the nut on the one side and take it off. Put the nut on the other side and tighten it, it should pull the bolt right out. I did this on the shifter of my ranger, i believe it is the same setup.

LOL yeh that is how it should have worked but it didnt. I got the trans down enough to where I could change the slave but now I need a new cluch line. Is the dealer the only place to get them?

DANG, Well they do have one, $44.90. So that is not to bad. Now my son comes home and says he just traided a dog for a 92 F150 with clutch problems. Yes I am going to kill him. LOL

ok...why are you trying to remove the shifter there in the first place? Just remove the three small hex screws from the mount and pull it right out. You shouldn't have to remove the bolt for anything unless you wanted to take that part of the shifter off. I don't know why that wouldn't work unless it was rammed in there from the last time it was worked on. I took mine off for no reason after i had my shifter out, and it was hard to get back in there. But the easy thing to do is just take the three screws out right where the shifter connects to the tranny, on that brass colored plate.
