Still being in the early interim stage's of this build, I'am thinking about the rods?
C7AE-B's with 3/8" ARP bolts or make a $100 Jump to H-beam rods? Tis the question...
I have been getting mixed reviews..Some say (Dennis @DSC) that his C7's will hold 600hp at least... Other's have told me to run H-Beam rod as a safety Measure??
Cause as hard as the good CJ/SCJ block are getting....ya dont want to launch a rod thru the Block?
I think the C7's would work just fine with the ARP's, Just seeing occational strip use... But I also know me...I like to drive things pretty hard...Both On and Off the track.. (the advantage of the country) LOL..
Very few time's will the motor see under 55 to 60 MPH... and then 70 to 75 on are Interstate's...

I rod can break while idling...........so I would put the best in it. Like you mentioned, don't want to lose a good block(like I did, even though the rods stayed together).
No sense in cheap'n out too much. A budget build is fine, but sometimes you need to throw good money at certain areas.
Yeah your right Larry...Put some Insurance money in it.... I cant replace that block for even double what I paid for it..Maybe even more?
So I think I'll put a couple more bucks to the side here in the next couple of weeks and Pop for the H-Beam rods..and feel safe about the build... I have bought allready all ARP Fasteners for the bottom end..I still need to get the head studs..
Personally, I dont think the aftermarket FE rods are any better than the stock ones. I recall seeing an article where they built up a 428 for a mustang, and used Eagle H beam rods. Guess what? It threw a rod.
I think the way to go would be to spring for a set of LeMans rods from DSC, and put ARP "bolts" (they use cap screws) in 'em. No only are they cheaper than the Eagle's at $450 a set, I think they're probably a little stronger too.
I don't know about Lemans rods?? If they are ANYTHING like the Ford versions..they might as well use diesel truck rods!! Those things are heavy beyond belief. Talk about breaking a crank...with 40 lbs of rods sling'n around. My '69 has a set in it and I knew it the first time I fired it up. Geez, the difference between the stock rods and those things were very noticable when you rev'r up. I put them in there for "insurance"..and now I wonder if it was actually worth it(this was back in mid 90's).
Now, any rod can break...that's proven. I run Eagles I beam in my stuff and when the crank broke, the block fell apart........but ALL 8 rods where still hang'n on for dear life as stuff was slinging in every direction inside that block at 6000 rpm. I have pictures of those things totally distorted into shapes un-imaginable...but they were still hooked to crank throws. Not to say the "arp" bolts that were used in that build up didn't fall apart? were not "stretched" properly?? Did the rod itself break? or the fastener fail? Did they turn it 9500 rpm? What is the rating for the H beam rod??
My machine shop is pretty adiment(sp?) about replacing rod bolts on a regular basis. After the second freshen up...it gets new bolts put in rods. They are only good for a couple stretches.

Larry, Do you still buy alot of your stuff through Carl? Just wonderin ? Ya it will only see 6000 to 6200rpm shift at the track on occation, Of course that might be one occation (sp) to many ? LOL..
The trans in it right now is set for 3500rpm street shifts....But I think I'am going to have my Bud in Michigan build another Rollerized C6, one like he did for the stang...instead of 25% power loss to the back wheels, he 's talking 18 to 20% ?
And he hasnt Broke the one in his Fox body in 6 years of running 10.30 on just the motor, and 9.50 on the spray.. So some more food for thought?? LOL...
Ok so your saying that the dsc h beams are too heavy to be worth it? I think lemans rods were like 800grams or something....I think thats what i read.I dont race but I like to get on my stuff here and there....So I wont be spending money on a 600-800 dollar set of rods.
Well Dennis doent give a weight on the Lemans rods with the cap screw's...But Max Duty H-beams are 810 grams with the ARP 2000 bolts....and the big end is .870" wide..
I have a nice set of Lemans rods and they are 845 grams each. Chubby suckers they are. That is a pretty good price for the H beams. Cheapest I've seen them has been $425. That said a decent set of Lemans rods are selling for $450 plus they need to be freshened. Sized, bushed, new dowel pins and cap screws etc... Also the Lemans rods need to be retapped for the ARP cap screws being they are not the original tri-lobe tapered design. CJ rods on the other hand are still quite afforable. I picked up a nice set for $75. All done they will be around $200 total. G.
Maybe I should write or call Dennis...and see who makes those H-beams... I know he said the off shore, but there supposed to be machined in the USA and not Mexico??
Oh well I have time to look.... I have an engine in the truck so I can still drive it to the cruise ins....
