Hello All,
My father's truck (1995 F250, 351W, E4OD, 4x4) is having major problems. When the transmission shifts into 2nd gear, the trans. locks up. I replaced the torque converter, front seal, solenoid pack, and transfer case a couple months ago to correct a leak and to try to improve the super harsh 1-2 shifts. My brother was driving the truck today and said when it shifted into 2nd the rear wheels locked up. He had to drive home in first gear. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Your sure its the tranny? Havnt heard of trannies locking up but ive heard of rearends locking up due to a bad spider gear. Try taking off the rear driveshaft and put it in gear and giv-er-gas, and for the love of god take the driveshaft off the t-case and NOT the rearend! Please keep in mind, general saftey procedures do apply (choke wheels)
If it dosnt lockup then its prolly the rearend. Take off the differential cover and look inside, look for chunks of metal, try and move the inerds. Note anything lose or sloppy.
It's definately the trans. My brother pulled it out today. Lots of metal shavings. I've never had anything like that happen either. Oh well, time for a rebuild. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.
I got it from a place in Rochester NY. It was a custom built, heavy duty, tig welded converter. Normal price is $150 plus about $24 for shipping. Found the seller on ebay and called 'em up. Seemed like a great deal to me. If you need more info, I will look for the box it came in and find the address and phone #.
