Temperature sending unit?

Temperature sending unit?

Can someone please tell me where the factory temperature sending unit is on a 96 f-350 with a efi 460? Thanks i got a new guage to put in and im not sure where it is and they say to take that one out and put a adapter in there.

There are two temperature sensors on the 460 engine. Both are located on the top front section of the lower intake manifold just about in the center of the engine. They are almost in-line with each other.

The front temperature sensor is for the engine's computer. That unit has a few vacuum lines attached to it.

The rear temperature sensor has a single wire going to it. This is the sensor that is attached to your temperature gage and is the one that you are looking for. It is best seen by looking at it from the passenger's side of the engine.

Thanks that helps, also do you know what a normal temp is. I bet im runnin close to 220 or more when the truck gets hot.
