Upgrade an 8.8?

may be looking for a replacement for my 8.8 in a 95 bronco, (cracked axel housing). What would be a reasonable upgrade with out a whole lot more $$$ I would kind of like to include a locker of somesort in the process.

Haha, that's about as vague as it gets.

What kind of upgrades? Limited slip or locker? What are you going to use the truck for? Do you have a lift/tires on it?

ok, ok A lot of wheeling 32" tires no lift ithe old one cracked at the spring perches. I am thinking a stronger unit might be better. ie ford 9" or dana etc. not real sure what fits with out to many other mods to the truck. A locker would be real helpful on the trail. But I have lived with-out for a lot of years.

Wow, you cracked a housing? You either got a lemon, or you REALLY beat the snot out of it.

The housing on a 9" is stronger, but you'll lose your ABS and more importantly your speedo. I wouldn't go that route.

The best upgrade would be to put in a sterling 10.25" from a 92-97 F-250 or F-350.

Unfortunately, that means new wheels and tires, and you have to do something with the front or you'll be carrying two spares.

Or if you know a good welder, you might be able to weld some reinforcements onto the 8.8 housing.

Lockers have been discussed here extensively - I'd suggest a search.

Just get another 8.8 and beef it up a bit, or swap in the 10.25.

thanks I will look at the problems that might dome with a 10.25 8 lugs sounds like a biggie
