Tractor trailer knocks down overhead interstate sign
This morning, in Norfolk, VA, for some unknown reason the trailer began lifting in the air and struck the sign bringing down the massive structure. Crushed a Honda Civic, the Lord was looking out for this woman, the trailer landed literally right ontop of her car. The story has good video of the car trapped underneath.
That explains alot. I was driving in Kansas City and saw and overhead sign with a perfect trailer wide chunk taken out of the bottom of it. I couldn't figure how any truck could be that tall. I guess it must have been a tilt bed also.
We had a bad one similar to that last month, a garbage truck was going down the freeway and for one reason or another the forks were in the up position, it knocked an overhead concrete walkway off it's supports and it fell on the truck killing the driver........bummer
Yea when I first heard the stry on the news I was like oh my someone had to die, but nope she came out safe and sound. Guess that honda had a little FORD tough bulit in it, lol
That driver might get fired. I really can't understand how the dump body of the trailer could lift up all by itself. The hydraulic take off or power-take-off (PTO) has to be manually activated and a valve handle must be moved to get pressure under the piston.
Anybody else think the driver screwed up?
about 15 years ago I saw a semi that tried to go under a 12 ft railroad trestle in Lansing,Mi bent the trailer in half. used to go thru there every day and it looked like he was not the first
I can't imagine where this drivers head was at the time. I find it hard to beleive he would not feel something "odd" in the way the truck was top heavy or swaying more than usual while cruising down the highway. And why in the world did other drivers not warn this yahoo??!!! I just can't believe what happens in real life sometimes.

I keep an eye out for all sorts of things, especially on semi's.
I've stopped and told a few drivers about stuck rear brakes (could smell it for miles before I got behind the truck), non-working lights, fuel dripping, etc.
They were all very grateful... DOT (and county cops) around here will kill you in fines if they catch you with those types of problems.
