Searched the threads and couldn't find an answer:
I have a '69 F-100. When I turn the wheel, i get a light grinding noise that appears to be happening in the upper portion of the column. It started just the other day, right after a particularly difficult parallel parking attempt. Could I have bent something? Any ideas on how to get rid of this?
Thanks in advance.
There's a cheezy bearing in the upper column that may have gone dry or been buggered. I'd check there first. There's also an electrical contact brush that allows the horn to work as the wheel is turned; it needs to have a light lube also. Either of these could cause the noise you describe. Pull your steering wheel and take a look.
