My front drivers side blinker light burned out on my 78 a couple of days ago. I replaced the bulb and thought I was good to go until I tried driving in the dark. When I turned the light son, the blinker light in the dash didn't blink. It just stayed green. a couple of days later the problem went away. Now it's back. I like having the ability to drive my truck w/the lights on and be able to turn left. Now, at night I can only legaly turn right. Any Ideas?
When you say drive with lights on,do you mean, turn the head/running lights on, then the signal light won't blink when you want to turn left and actuate the Signal light lever?
If so, will the left S/L blink with the head/Running lights OFF?
How about the right turn signal, does it blink with the Head/running lights On/Off ?
Sorry, I'll try to make myself more clear. When the headlights are off, everything is OK. When they are on, the passenger side works fine. The drivers side blinker stays on. The blinker indicator in the dash is lit up and wont flash. The problem occrs intermitently.
When I had this problem it was a bad ground in that circuit. Since yours started when you changed the bulb I would guess a bad bulb. Try swapping in a bulb from the other side and see if the problem goes away. If it does then get a new bulb.
I second the bad ground theory. Or bad contact between the bulb metal shell and the connection in the socket. When you turn your lights on, your park lights come on. Instead of the voltage going through the park filament, and then returning to ground, it is finding a better path through the turn signal filament, and then running backwards up through the light in the dash circuit.
Many times it's the little metal contact in the socket that rusts out. Check the sockets while you're at it (with the bulbs). You can find new ones in the "help" section for little $$.
i had a similar prolbem. the buld socket was rusted out, a bad wire ect. check all of it over for bad wires, ground and connections. then check the bulb it'self
I had the same exact problem and it was bad ground in the socket went to napa and bought a new socket wired it in and it was fine.
