Anyone's brake master cylinder have a switch on it? Turns out that this is the cruise cancel switch. (you'd figure they could just put something on the pedal.... idiots)
Anyway mine started to leak, and found out that the part had been replaced with a new one. looks completely different and more reliable.
The part ran me $40, but I think it may be worth it, because the old one was starting to leak brake fluid.
jaja, I have the same Bronco as you ('94 5.8 XLT) and I had to replace the switch about a year ago or so for the same reason - the brake fluid degraded the plastic and caused a short.
Funny thing is we just had a recall on 2000 F150s involving the same switch(looks the same), been on all the Ford trucks since 1992!!!Recall included new switch with new jumper harness- seems Ford had to buy a couple of houses and trucks when the switches overheated-shorted out, and caught fire and trucks were in their garage--I done about about 50 of them, but the odd thing about it is- power runs through the pressure switch with key on and stops power when you push brake pedal to the cruise servo-- wander how it shorted out and caught fire unless key was left on???
Orange you may still have a problem if you changed yours out a year ago, I don't think the new switch was out a year ago, if its red in color it's the old style. This is what the new switch looks like.

Thanks for the heads-up, 94 XLT. I do indeed have the old red switch. I replaced mine before the recall stuff hit the news. Looks like it may be time to visit my local Ford dealer.
all - i wrote a letter to cust relations ford. i basically told them that i love ford, yet their policy sucks because we shouldn't have to pay for a part that has the potential to create fires out of our trucks, and that i want my money back for the part i paid + my labor time.
its actually not about the money, i do wish ford got on this and told the 10 million or whatever trucks out there use this switch that they are sitting on a time bomb, and should have it fixed. (free of charge of course).
i think the problem is that 80% of these vehicles are not the original owner, and ford prob can't contact them. but still, they better think of something before more trucks catch on fire.
i would have been really pissed if mine got torched.
Never have I seen a Bronco or F150 burn or catch fire from this area where the switch is mounted in the 28 years I have worked as a Ford tech. The recall only included 2000 F150s and some 01 F 250s. Like I said before there is no power running through this switch unless key is on SO if they (FORD) had to pay for some houses and trucks(parted inside garage) WHO left the key ON??? AND WHO IS AT FAULT----Wouldn't it be great if Ford just guarenteed every thing forever no matter if you were orig owner or not.Yah right- out of business in one hour!!!
oh, ok so there is not power running through these switches... that's what i figured... i guess god damn CNN don't know squat.
yea - i guess i'm asking for alot, but i still think regardless if they pay or not, they should let us know if this stuff is a potential cause of fire.... but then again, if you're a tech i'm sure you know more.
I got a whole lot of peace of mind for the money. Even though the recall does not go before 2000 the problem switch part number was the same that burned down everthing folks had. I replaced mine with the new one with adapter harness for about $14.

Reason: typo
jaja I'm not trying to pour gasoline on your fire but when I got them I though "what a great deal....Ford is being nice to all with a low price" . Be sure to get the new one that arrived recently. The new one has different connections from the '94 thus the adapter harness that comes with it.
