I'm putting a 429 in my '76 highboy I'm going to change to an automatic trans. as well. Will a regular old 2wd C6 work or do I need one out of a highboy. I know I will have to fabricate some linkage for the t-case, but will the crossmember work? Will I have to shorten the driveshaft between the trans. and t-case? I'm not in a rush to do this so I don't mind some extra work to save trouble down the road. I plan to have the truck read to run by March.
killer truck, yes a 2wd trans will work. highboys only came with
standards i think. i have a picture of the bracket that you will need to make for the linkage. and yes you will need to shorten the
driveshaft a little and put a new slip yoke on it for the automatic
transmission. i can send you the picture this evening.
you can e-mail me later to remind if you'd like. GLENB@EV1.NET

on my 76 "hiboy" the tailshaft of the tranny is where the shifter for the 4x4 is bolted to so I think all you would have to do is change your tail shafts?if the splines are the same,I think its not that big of a job?if they didnt change bolt pattern on the tail shafts?
Sorry about that, I thought I read you had an auto in there already
but if you find an auto from that year from a 4x4 then you could just change your tailshafts?
