166000

Let me start out by saying I am a diesel guy. I currently have a 96 f250 crewcab shortbed 2wd. It has 210000 miles. I have spent approx 3 grand on repairs this year. Injectors, clutch, rear main seal. I am lucky in that I am not afraid of doing these things myself. I have saved alot.

I pull a 10k pound bumper pull TT. I have been disappointed with the strength of my truck. I have narrowed the trouble to a compression loss somewhere. I do not want to spend anymore on the truck.

I need a 4wd crew cab lwb srw. I have located a 2000 v10 with 166,00 miles. The owner drives 100 miles both ways to work. He pulls a gooseneck lowboy with a bronco to his deer lease.

I know all the comparisons of the PSD to v10. What I dont know is lifespan. Is this alot of miles. I drive a work truck during the week, so I do not put alot of miles on a truck. When I do drive I drive, and play hard.

I retired a 1989 f250 diesel with somewhere around 300000 miles it was still running strong, except for the E4od transmission, my second.

How many more miles will the v10 go???

Wimmer, Welcome to the the V10 Forum and FTE. You will get replies from people who know more about the V10 than I do but I will give my 2 cents. The truck you descibe has had mostly highway miles so I think if the owner changed his oil and filters on a regular basis that V10 probably has another 100,000 miles in her. I had a 95 PSD and my new V10 has more snuff than that old work horse ever did. Good Luck.

Welcome to the site!

Honestly, if you are going to rely on this vehicle for your primary/only transportation, I'd look for something with a few less miles. Going from a vehicle with 210,000 miles to one with 166,000 miles isn't buying you a lot of time before getting back into high-$$ repairs.... whether it be engine, tranny or something else.

With proper maintenance, the V10 should be able to go well past 200,000 miles. We've had reports here of some with over 300,000 on them. But the rest of the vehicle is going to be pretty well worn out.

If you do test drive the V10, remember that it is an overhead cam engine that likes to rev. Don't be afraid to take it over 5,000 RPMs... it's not a low-RPM diesel!

I'm guessing you're going to buy this cheap ? I would not necessarily be scared of this truck, but why not buy a lower mileage vehicle, heck even if the engine goes to 300K you'll still have a partially worn out truck. If you can buy it cheap enough to cover any possible repairs it may make sense.

166,000 is alot of miles. I would let someone else deal with that one. There are a lot of good low mileage V10's out there.

fwiw, my truck gets worked hard towing lots of weight, and does some off road time also. I take very good care of it though. It looks like it doesnt have more than 30k on it. Im at 211,000 now and runs absolutly perfect. Te good thing about the v10 is, if the slight possibility happens that you need a new engine you can usually find a used one (30-40k mi) for around $3000.
