Talking Help ID a 9" posi?

I was a good boy and posted my question to the tranny forum, but as yet have had no answers. Would you guys mind looking at my 9" rear end and seeing if it is a open or posi? - (My projects rear, not mine!)

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=400584

Thanks -

That sure looks like a clutch pack on the ring gear... my vote is posi. It should be real easy to tell with the pumpkin out; as George said, if you can turn the ring with one of the spider gears held, it's open not posi.

I would say no because the ring gear bolts aren't recessed (they are on a posi). Check this website for more info http://www.maliburacing.com/ford_9_i..._nine_inch.htm

Definitely not a traction lock (posi). Looks like a 2 spider open.

Here are some things to look for when hunting pumpkins. A trac lok will always have the recessed ring gear bolts. You'll also find the end of the screws that hold the carrier together in 3 spots between the ring gear bolts. Most trac loks have 4 spiders. The two short spider pinions are held in by roll pins visible on the ring gear face side of the carrier. Good luck, Rich.
