Is the truck you are wanting to convert a half ton or 3/4 ton? Do you want to run coils up front or leafs? This will help us to tell you what year vehicle to look for parts from.
I'd start looking for a '78-'79 F250 or F350 4x4 for a donor truck then, and get the whole truck. You will have to lift it a minimum of 5-6" in order for the front axle to get away from the 2wd crossmember. Or you could eliminate the crossmember and build a custom one in there if you don't want that much lift. For a transmission I would look for a C6 with the 302 bellhousing patern with an NP 205 mated to it. This would be the easiest tranny/tcase to fit under that truck. I am running an NP 435/NP 208 combo, and the 208 cases are wider than a 205, so I had to notch my frame in order to clear it. There is plenty of knowledgeable guys around here when it comes to this swap, so feel free to fire away with the questions!
