I had some hard upshift problems on my 2002 Explorer. I brought it in for service and they found that the all the shift solenoids were not working correctly so they were changed.
I also had intermittent problems with delayed engagement of reverse. To address this issue, the powertrain control module (PCM) was re-programmed.
I have an extended warranty (EasyCare) which covered the shift solenoid re and re.....but they did NOT cover re-programming of the PCM.
My questions: Would the solenoid replacement work have required a PCM re-program anyway? If re-programming the PCM was necessary to address a problem, why wouldn't the extended warranty cover it?
