No brake fluid in the electrical connector but there was a bit of it around the top of the switch where it screws into the master cylinder itself. I don't think it came from the switch though. It looks like some overflow-runs from the brake reservoir cap. I can see where fluid dripped from the cap, rolled to the front and passenger side of the reservoir, went down the front feed tube and down onto the switch itself, but it was very little and very old.

I'd wipe it clean and check in a few days, and leave your truck parked outside

captchas,

Yep, mine leaked, and then caused a small fire in the engine compartment. Only part involved was the switch. . .here's a pic:

Brake fluid leaked out of the fitting and down into the electrical connector, shorting it out and burning off the brake fluid on the harness. Good thing I was under the hood searching for the source of burnt plastic odor when it lit up.

I got a 'new and improved' switch from the Ford parts counter. Parts guy told me they have a whole stack of replacement switches on hand because they fail on a regular basis.

thanks very much guy's.
i got a few emails that theirs was leaking also.guess it off to ford and get it replaced . munkey thanks for the photo. looks like ford still can't get their act together and use a switch by the break pedal that stays dry. and has no fliud to short out.

I had mine leak on my old 2001 F250 5.4 gasser. Took the paint off the frame to. Ford would not do anything. Part was under $20.00 bucks. Unscrewed the old one and screwed in the new one quickly. Part guy said O we have hundreds on these in stock. Hmmmm I wonder why. He also told me about the fires. This was almost a year ago.

Was there any difference between the one you took off, and the "new one" that replaced it?

If I remember they added a pigtail. To move the electrical connection a little father away.

BigF350,

function12 is correct, the fitting looked exactly like the one I removed, only part was instead of the connector plugging directly into the fitting, it plugs into a pigtail that comes off the fitting. I guess Ford figures the brake fluid will never reach the end of the pigtail and cause a fire?

on this one i asked about, it screws right into the master and the plug directly onto the switch. the wire plug faces right straight up from the bottom and the plug did have fliud inside of it. ford can't look at it the 18th

I recently disconnected my cruise-control/master-cyl switch, because it worried me.

And now, to find out the '05's are doing it too?

Sheesh... we gotta go lynch that engineer

they could put a micro switch to the pedal under the dash to switch the ground and have no problems like this, there is no where else for the fuild to go but down into the plug. it's pulled off for now untill i get it in.
i really felt as they said it's fixed that every one should know to still keep a eye out as it still happens .

It could be even simpler than that. They could use the (existing) brake-light switch as a cruise control disconnect signal. The brake lights come on, the cruise control shuts off. End of story and everyone lives happily ever after. No need for any additional dubious master-cylinder-mounted abominations, and no marshmallows needed for the fire in the garage at 3 AM.
