Was prowling round under the hood (looking for any of the elusive DRL connectors, relays, etc) when I noticed the air inlet was installed (what I perceived to be) wrong. The duct goes thru a round hole in the sheet metal alongside the radiator. There is a plastic flap or shroud between the front sheet metal and the radiator top support which closes off the area in front of the radiator. By lifting this flap I could peer down into an opening where the inlet duct comes thru the sheet metal. The duct on this side is surrounded by a gasket that has a hole punched into it slightly smaller than the duct. Short radial slits make little flaps that allow the duct to go thru the gasket. Problem was the gasket was not around the duct, but in front of it, leaving only the smaller hole for air to enter. And at 1500 miles on the new baby, I'm at about 13 MPG, so what will it do now?
