04 Explorer noises
I have an 04 Explorer Limited with 4.6, 4x4 and Auto. The other day when it was 95 degrees I heard a strange whistle or whine. It made this noise while leaving from a stop light and in traffic. It only seems to make the noise when in 2nd and 4th gear. I can't tell if it is coming from the trans. or not, I did have the air on. On the return trip through the same area later on that night when the temp had cooled to 85 or so, I didn't notice it???? Anyone have any ideas or have this happen? I am taking it in to the dealer in the morning to have the radio replaced because it cuts off all the left speakers if you don't listen to it wide open. Thanks, Greg

yeah - my 04 limited does it too very briefly on slow acceleration when the a/c is on. Ford supposedly has a service bulletin on it but I have not yet complained because its not been a big deal to me. It does it when it is very hot and humid. I have heard that it is a slip of the belt on the a/c compressor when it is very humid.

Have you tried putting on a new belt? I was thinking of trying that to see if it helps. I always replace the belt and keep the old one in the back for a spare anyway for that "just in case" emergency in the middle of nowhere. Have you had any other troubles with yours and how many miles do you have? We had the power steering pump replaced at 7000 and the additive for trans done at the same time and now the radio problem is being fixed today.
