I have a 302 out of a '68 Mustang (my son's car). I am replacing the FMX tranny with a C-4 but come to find out, the flywheels are different sizes, the C-4 is smaller. I'm having a hard time finding one. I'm not sure of the tooth count and whether I need a 10.5" or 11". Any help here would be appreciated.
I know this is a truck forum but I trust you guys, I have a '69 F-100 with a 390 and I stay in the FE forum. Thanks.
1978 Ford Mustang Engine V-8 302
Then search on "flywheel"
Should bring up flexplate
Pioneer Products FRA205
Flexplate Assembly: O.E. Number E0AZ-6375-A; w/C4 AOT or FMX A.T.
$54.99
Notice the "or".
A lot of other choices and teeth counts available, but, I think this is what probably will fit. Go to the store, order it, test fit it. If good, then order the starter and flex plate bolts to match. If not, measure and count the teeth and then return and adjust up or down as needed.
FRA205 has 164 teeth, which is good, but the OD (14.23) is too wide. The bellhousing on this C-4 is barely 13". I'm thinking that the FRA215 would work because it has the same pitch as the 205. Thanks alot.
sounds like you need the 'small' flywheel - have them cross over Ford
part number C3AZ-6375-L, which is a 157-tooth wheel, 13.3" diameter,
and has four TC mounting bolt holes on a 10-1/2" circle.
You need to know what the C4 came from. I have found that the 77 mustang II car with 302 motors had at least two different flywheels and maybe 3 and the flywheel has to match the bell housing.
I believe the TC bolt pattern also plays a roll in which flywheel you need.
