Bed Storage Advice

I have a 05 F-150 SuperCrew.

I had a SUV before this vehicle and the "covered/water proof" storage space came in handy from time to time.

Even though my truck is a 4-door I have missed the covered space.

Does anyone know of a product that will mount in the bed that provides a covered/water resistent space for suite cases, backpacks, shoes, etc...???

Ideally, I don't want a permanent option, just something I can mount when I travel with passengers and their luggage.

Point in case last weekend. Girlfriend, her son, 80 pound black lab and me traveling with luggage. Kid sits in the center so he can watch X-Men 2 on the DVD screen on my console, 80lb dog next to him (squished), luggage on the other side. Girlfriend front passenger, luggage squiched next to her feet.....

I'm not looking for a bar for the bed necessarily but something that is movable that will mount in the bed up against the cab... something that is heavy duty and water-proof, maybe lockable....

Thanks.....

I have used a over the rail cargo box for just that sort of thing with the non permenent mounts, or get one of those clamshell boxes you see on car tops and bungee it in with your tie downs.

I have used just a plain ol plastic tub from Wal Marrt with a lid on it.

My dad and I use to take off for two or three day fishing trips in my Ranger regular cab and we'd throw our luggage and fly fishing vests in one tub and our waders in another in the bed of the truck, throw a tie down strap over em and we'd be gone. If we stopped and ate somewhere we'd park the truck where we could see it and of course once we got to where we were staying we just took them out.
We've also used them for the same purpose when we go quail hunting, I've done this for road trips and whatever else too!

If you do a lot of travelling , you may want to consider a "permanent" type bed cover, like a two or 3 piece folding cover, to protect your stuff. This way you make a really big trunk for all your stuff. Just make sure you have someplace to store it when not travelling.

Otherwise, I concur with the roof-mounted travel box or bag option secured with ratcheting cables to your be tie downs. Problem is, those boxes can get expensive and dont' hold large pieces or volumes of luggage. I had on on my volvo wagon but still had to put the bigger stuff inside the car.
